Public Safety Officers responded Sunday night to a motor vehicle accident on West Fleming Drive, where a pedestrian and killed. The victim, 34-year-old Isaac Tomoteo Ortiz Berduo of Morganton had been hit by a pickup truck driven by 21-year-old Kaleb Wright of Nebo. According to a news release from Morganton Department of Public Safety, Wright was traveling west and struck Berduo who was walking east in the middle of the travel lane near the ABC Store on West Fleming Drive. No charges have been filed pending the investigation outcome.

A Morganton man was arrested after a vehicle chase early Saturday morning. About 1 o'clock Public Safety Officers were involved in pursuit after a Public Safety Officer attempted to stop a vehicle for a traffic infraction. According to a news release from Public Safety, the suspect vehicle struck a patrol vehicle twice before the suspect fled the scene on foot. He was taken into custody a short time later and identified as 36-year-old Tron Francis. PSO Walker was treated at CHS Morganton for minor injuries from the collision and was released for full duty. Francis was taken to the Burke Catawba Detention Center and held under a $43,000 bond.

The McDowell County 911 Communications Center and the McDowell County Sheriff's Office fielded numerous calls Friday from residents who were contacted by fake IRS representatives. This is an old scam that makes its way around the county every couple of months. The Sheriff's office urges citizens not to send the callers money or give them any personal information. Simply tell tham not to call back and hang up.The Buncombe County Sheriff's Office also reported Friday receiving call from its residents with similar calls.

A Burke County man wins $200,000 playing 10th Anniversary Spectacular. Naveed Anjum of Jonas Ridge is the latest player to win the new scratch-off game. He is the owner of the Mountain Crossing on N.C.181 and bought the $5 ticket when hos wife was working. After claiming the prize Thursday,
Anjum received $138,501 after taxes.
