McDowell County Fire

North Carolina Forest Service and other emergency personnel continue

working to contain the Pogue Mountain fire in McDowell County. As of

Wednesday afternoon, about 110 acres have burned across the mountain

with the fire around 30% contained. Local fire departments are providing

crews to assist with the forest service operations. Weather is still a concern

for fire officials. All citizens are asked to refrain from any outdoor burning.

Anyone who sees outdoor burning should call 911 to report to officials.

Attempted ATM Robbery in Hickory

Hickory Police officers interrupt an apparent ATM larceny. Just before

4 o’clock Wednesday morning, officers noticed a suspicious vehicle

in the parking lot of BB&T/Suntrust Bank, 1920 North Center Street.

As officers approached, two slender males ran from the parking lot

leaving the vehicle, a 1999 F250 behind. The truck had been reported

stolen from Elkin. The suspects had connected a logging chain to the

bank ATM, but were interrupted by police. Anyone with information

about this attempted breaking and entering to an ATM should call

Hickory Police at 828-328-5551.
