Hickory Man Pleads Guilty to Common Law Robbery 

A Hickory man pled guilty last month in Lincoln County Superior

Court to Common Law Robbery. Tyrone Matthew Rozzell, was

sentenced to 20 to 36 months in prison for the August 15th, 2017

robbery of Jerry’s One Stop at 3778 East Highway 27. He was

apprehended the same day of the robbery after a customer in

the store followed the suspect and got a description of the

getaway vehicle.


October Unemployment  

The October unemployment rate for the

Hickory-Lenoir-Morganton metro area was 3.4 %.

Area county rates include Avery at 2.7%, Burke and

McDowell Counties at 3.3%, Catawba 3.4% and Caldwell

at 3.6%, according to figures released Thursday by the

North Carolina Department of Commerce.


Caldwell Visual Award Winners  

Artists from 7 counties recently participated in the 

Caldwell Arts Council’s 45th Annual Visual Artists Competition.

The Best of Show award went to Tyler Stephens of Caldwell

County for “The Tentacles of Time” – handcut collage.

Catawba County winners included second and third place and

Four Judge’s Merit Awards.
