A Morganton woman authorities reported was on the run after
not showing up for sentencing last week is now in custody.
35-year-old Brandy Nicole Davis was to have had a court
appearance Wednesday for her suspected involvement in a 2016 double murder.
A news release states Davis
is now charged with two counts of felony accessory after the fact and failure
to appear.
No details about Davis ’
most recent arrest have been released.
Test results are negative for a possible coronavirus case
in North Carolina.
The State Division of Public Health is reporting that
negative results were
received Saturday night about a patient being tested for
the virus.
Coronavirus infections initially were diagnosed in a city
in China, and have since
been reported in travelers to other locations in China
and other countries including
the U.S. No cases have been identified in North Carolina.
A man turned himself to Hickory Police Sunday in
connection with a fatal
shooting Thursday night. Police responded about 8:15 to
22nd Street Northeast
where they discovered 23-year-old Andres Moscotte lying
in the yard deceased
from an apparent shotgun wound. Jalen Jakee Witherspoon
surrendered
yesterday and was served with a warrant for first degree
murder. He was placed
in the Catawba County Jail under no bond.
Caldwell County Schools is one of four Western North
Carolina school systems
awarded grant monies from the North Carolina General
Assembly. Caldwell
County Schools received grant funds in the amount of
$46,040. The grant program
is under the Coding and Mobile App Development Grant
Program launched in
2017. Other WNC grant awards include,
Asheville-Buncombe-Madison
Consortium, $80,000. Cherokee County Schools, about
$42,000 and Rutherford
County Schools just under $34,000.
