The Lenoir Police Department is launching a voluntary alarm
registration program in efforts to help reduce the number of false alarm calls
in the city.
Police officials report sending officers to false alarms
takes up time that could be spent patrolling the city or answering other
legitimate calls.
Officers say a few common causes for false alarms are pets,
defective alarms, and problems with motion sensors.
Lenoir Police is asking residents and business owners with
alarms in the city limits to register their alarms.
If a property has three false alarms within six months, an
officer will contact the owner to discuss the issue.
Officials also recommend that property owners maintain their
alarm systems and keep pets confined when away from the home.
For more information on how to register your alarm, go to
the Lenoir Police website or contact Danielle Gainey at 757-2130.
