An early morning structure fire Wednesday morning involved a piece of Glen Alpine history.

Six county fire departments with assistance from Nebo were dispatched to the blaze on Linville Street around 2:30 am.

More than 100 years old, the home was reportedly vacant.

The Burke County Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the cause of the fire.



A woman faces charges in Caldwell County after allegedly setting her parents’ home on fire.


Located just east of Lenoir, Caldwell authorities say Grecia Barlowe set their house on fire while both of them were inside asleep last spring.

Another media outlet reports Barlowe also set her own home on fire last summer in Granite Falls.

She has reportedly been charged with a pair of arson offenses and with two counts of attempted first-degree murder.

Barlowe is being held under a 500-thousand dollar bond.



McDowell officers arrest a Marion man on numerous charges after a traffic stop on May 26th.

45-year-old Steven Lynn Milam of Hicks Chapel Loop was stopped for multiple traffic violations on NC 226 South.

Deputies identified the driver as Milam, and realized he did not have a valid driver’s license.

A search of the vehicle by officers and a K-9 turned up 210 grams of marijuana.

Milam was charged with possession of marijuana, maintaining a vehicle to keep a controlled substance, possession with intent to sell and deliver marijuana, operating a vehicle with no insurance, and driving while license revoked.



A Shelby woman is stopped by Catawba County officers for driving a stolen vehicle Tuesday.

According to a news release, 27-year-old Brittany Shae Mayhue was driving the vehicle reported stolen from Cherokee County South Carolina.

Mayhue had three outstanding warrants from Gaston County for driving-related charges.

She was taken to the Catawba County detention center for possessing the stolen vehicle and for the outstanding warrants.

Deputies discovered too Mayhue was also in possession of meth.

She was then additionally charged with possession of a controlled substance inside of a detention facility.

Her bond was set at 21-thousand dollars.
