A Sylva-based company will soon locate a facility in Burke County – bringing new jobs to the area, and more than an 11-million-dollar investment over the next five years.

Jackson Corrugated will be housed in the American Roller Bearing building on Chain Drive in Morganton.

The company is a subsidiary of Jackson Paper Company which has been based in Sylva since its inception in 1995.

In 2016, a subsidiary company was established in Dalton, Georgia that processes rolled paper from Sylva into corrugated cardboard products.

A demand for the product has outgrown the Dalton facility, causing officials to search for a facility in NC.

Morganton’s facility, like the Georgia operation, will process Sylva’s rolled paper into small cardboard products and will employ 42 workers.

One NC funding in the amount of 100-thousand-dollars has been awarded to the company.

Jackson Corrugated was also awarded a 276-thousand dollar grant from the Golden Leaf Foundation for the purchase of equipment.

The victim was reportedly 7 to 10 years old at the time and acquainted with Jornigan.

Sheriff’s Office reports the victim just recently disclosed the accusations to family members, who then contacted authorities.
