The Burke County Sheriff's Office has received reports of people getting phone calls from someone claiming to be from the Sheriff's Office. The caller states the Burke County Sheriff's office is contacting them because they missed jury duty. The caller is requesting money for missing jury duty. This is a scam. The Burke County Sheriff's Office does not contact people requesting money.

The Dodson Knob Fire in McDowell County as of Sunday, was still at 1,760 acres but 85% contained. There were 200 people assisgned to the fire as of Sunday morning's briefing, but many are going through the demobilization process, finalizing paperwork and packing up to travel home or be reassigned to other fires ongoing in WNC, Florida and Georgia. Smoke from the Dobson knob Fire has greatly diminished and the air quality has improved for most of the WNC mountain region except for counties near the fire. Due to the fire, trail closures remain in place on the Grandfather District of the Pisgah National Forest. The April 11th closure order includes a portion of the Mountains to Sea Trail along the edge of the fire.
