Shortly before 9 Tuesday morning, Morganton Public Safety officers responded to Gregory Jewelers Downtown. Officers learned that 2 males had entered the store shortly after opening, smashed the glass jewelry cases and removed an undertermined amount of jewelry. The suspects left the store on sport type motorcycles. Suspect 1 was wearing a dark jacket and white full face motorcycle helmet with Suspect 2 wearing a red sweater and black full face motorcycle helmet. Anyone with information or knowledge of the suspects is asked to call 438-5393. The investigation is ongoing.

A Morganton man will serve 6 to 9 years in prison for his role in the concealment of a body. Timothy Hal Edwards pleaded guilty to concealing a body during Burke County Superior Court on Monday and was given an active prison sentence. Edwards was involved in concealing the body of 39-year-old Leslie Renee Hensley after she was shot and killed by Michael Lee Shuping in April 2015. Edwards and Shuping dumped Hensley's body down an embankment off a dirt road in Rutherford County. Shuping later confessed, implicating Edwards in his involvement. Shuping pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter and concealing a death during Burke County Superior Court last week and was sentenced to 10-14 years in prison.

A Marion couple charged after their children test positives for drugs. The McDowell County Sheriff's Office Tuesday, charged 34-year-old Elisha Dawn Presnell and 31-year-old Kenneth Chad Presnell, with misdemeanor contributing to the delinquency of a juvenile. Their two children - 9-year old and 1-year-old boys - tested positive for methamphetamine and marijuana.
