The Burke County Board of Commissioners have once again postponed making a decision on schematic jail plans, but have planned a workshop on the matter for next week. Approving schematic jail plans was a decision item on the agenda for the Burke County Board of Commissioners Tuesday night regular meeting, but some commissioners questioned if they were jumping into things too quickly, due to the emtimated cost increase. Chairman Wayne Abele was one of them. "I'm personally not ready to build a new jail until we get some of this resolved. There are alot of questions and people are asking a lot of questions and I think need to do what's best for the taxpayers of Burke County and think this thing out. I think we rushed into this thing." Commissioner Johnnie Carswell made it clear that the Board had already voted to build the jail on Government Drive, but that decision has the ability to be overturned. The item was removed from the agenda in a 3-2 vote and the Board agreed to have a workshop to discuss the matter further next Tuesday.
