Morganton Department of Public Safety responded Friday to a report of an explosion near Mountain Crest Elementary School. Personnel checked the area around the bulk refuse dumpsters across from the school where the explosion was thought to have originated. An older model TV set lying in front of the dumpster had been blown apart. Public Safety personnel determined that a capacitor inside the TV had exploded when it was either dropped or kicked over by some passing children, who then fled the area on foot. There were no explosive devices or remnants found to indicate that any sort of malicious activity had occurred, according to Public Safety.
Narcotics were located Saturday after a traffic stop. According to Morganton Department of Public Safety, a Honda Civic was stopped on Sanford Drive for failure to maintain lane control and suspicion of driving while impaired. K9 Shrek alerted during an exterior sniff of the car. A search was conducted with Public Safety reporting that 11.5 grams of "crack" cocaine were located, with marijuana and Xanex and Currency on Terrence Andrade. Xanex was found on Roderick Caldwell. The Burke County Narcotics Task Force was called to the scene. Andrade received a bond of $25,000 with a court appearance scheduled for today. Caldwell's bond was set at $1000 with a court date of April 4th. The investigation is continuing.
