Two men face charges in connection with a business breakin last week at Grasstrimmer Lawn & Maintenance on Old Highway 18 Morganton. Burke County Sheriff's office deputies responded early Thursday to the business. The stolen items were valued at $11,500. The Criminal Investigations Division developed suspects and arrested 20 year old Dalton Randolph Rhom and an accomplice
34 year old John "Victor" Freeman. Rhom's bond was set at $35,000 with Freeman's bond seat at $30,000. Detectives recovered the victim's stolen trailer and several power tools. A 1996 Suburban was recovered, but had been burned (arson). The investigation is ongoing and detectives with the Burke County Criminal Investigation Division will be seeking additional charges against other suspects.

A Vale man entered a guilty plea to a charge of robbery with a dangerous weapon last week during Burke County Superior Court. 24 year old Skyler Blayne Faust was given a prison term of 49 to 71 months by the Honorable Daniel A. Kuehnert, Superior Court Judge from Burke County. Faust went into Hardees in Hildebran on May 30, 2015 and robbed the restaurant at gunpoint. Detective Robert Clifford was lead investigator, and Chris Back was the prosecutor for the 25th District Attorney's Office.

A Granite Falls man pleaded guilty to statutory rape of a 13 year old by a defendant more than 6 years older than the victim, during Caldwell County Superior Court last week. 27 year old Jonathan David Reid was issued a sentence of 15 to 24 years by the Honorable Yvonne M.Evans, Superior Court Judge from Mecklenburg County. Kim Britt investigated the case for the Caldwell County Sheriff's Office with assistance from the Robin's Nest Child Advocacy Center, and Assistant District Attorney Nancy Lee handled prosecution for the state.

(1/10/2016) MDPS- FHS BUILDINGS BROKEN INTO / VANDALIZED
Morganton Public Safety Officer's responded to Freedom High School to investigate a reported breaking and entering to several buildings near the stadium area over the weekend.
On Saturday, Coach Rogers and Coach Allen reported to Public Safety they discovered the Jug Wilson Field House broken into and vandalized. Further investigation discovered several other buildings vandalized and broken into including the W. Flemon McIntosh Press Box. Saturday marks the second time this week the field house has been broken into.
Damage is estimated around $5,000.00 and extends to the track, bleachers and field equipment. Public Safety, along with the Burke County Sheriff's Office are investigating the crimes which are felonious in nature due to the extent of damage.
