The National Weather Service at Greenville-Spartanburg has issued a winter storm warning from midnight tonight till 7PM Saturday. Snow accumulation forecasts for the Foothills 10-15 inches and for the Mountains 8-18 inches.

Burke County Public School officials are keeping am eye on the weather as forecasters call for the first winter storm of the season. School officials are concentrating on keeping "student safety" as top priority. Aside from constantly monitoring various weather models, school leaders closely communicate with law enforcement, emergency services, and DOT in making the best decisions for the 13,000 Burke students. The state requires 185 days of educational time; meaning students can miss a few days of school without making up days in their current 180 day school calendar. School delays or cancellations because of adverse weather are made as soon as possible and by no later than 5:30am; however, leaders encourage parents to have a plan in place should school be closed.
