State Supreme Court Suspends Candidate Filing 

Filing for all offices for the 2022 primary election was

suspended Wednesday by the North Carolina Supreme

Court. According to a State Board of Elections news

release, this includes filing for rescheduled municipal

contests, and any separate filing period in January

for those contests. The Supreme Court also pushed the

date of the primary and rescheduled municipal elections

to May 17th, from the original date of March 8th. Dates

for a new filing period have not been set.


Burke COVID-19 Deaths  

Burke County Public Health reported 2 additional deaths

on Wednesday, bringing the total to 276. The two were

in their 50’s and 70’s and were hospitalized prior to

passing from COVID-related complications.


Felony Laceny in Gator Thefts  

A Connelly Springs man is charged with felony larceny

in connection with the thefts of two Gator UTV’s from

the East Burke High football offices. Jessie James Shull

could face additional charges after the Burke County

Sheriff’s Office findings are scheduled to be turned over  

to the District Attorney’s Office. One of the UTV’s was

recovered in Vale with the other found in Catawba County.

The Catawba Sheriff’s Office assisted Burke in the case.


John Howard Promoted to Lenoir Police Lieutenant 

John Howard has been promoted to the rank of lieutenant in

the Lenoir Police Department Patrol Division. Lieutenant Howard

joined the City of Lenoir Police Department in 2007 and has

14 years of service. Prior to joining the City ‘s Police Force,

Lieutenant Howard served 4 years with the U.S.Marine Corp

and was in the Enduring Freedom Conflict in the Middle East.


Winter Weather Preparedness Week  

This is Winter Weather Preparedness Week and Governor

Cooper is asking citizens to plan and prepare now.

Meteorologists expect the state to see warmer and

drier conditions than normal, but this does not mean that

wintry precipitation will not develop across North Carolina

this winter, leading to icy roads and other hazards.
