COVID-19 Update

Burke County Public Health on Sunday reported a total of 6,551 cases

of COVID-19, up 171 from Thursday’s briefing. According to a Public

Health news release, Burke has 1,252 active cases with 24 residents in

the hospital. The Burke County Health Department resumes COVID-19

testing today, with testing on Mondays and Tuesdays from 8 a.m till Noon

at the health department.

In McDowell County on Friday, 67 new cases of the virus reported for

a total of 3,167 with 464 McDowell citizens in quarantine.

Caldwell County on Saturday reported 112 new cases of coronavirus for

a total of 6,086 with 58 patients hospitalized.

And in Catawba County, 99 new cases of COVID-19 reported on Sunday for

a current total of 11,868 and 120 people are in the hospital.


Alexander Inmate Dies from COVID-19

An Alexander Correctional Institution offender with pre-existing

medical conditions, who tested positive for COVID-19, has died at

a hospital. According to the N.C.Department of Public Safety, the

offender was hospitalized on December 7th, the same day he tested

positive for COVID-19. His condition worsened, and he died on

Thursday. The offender was a male in his early-70’s who had

underlying health conditions.
