COVID-19 UPDATE

The Burke County Health Department says 1,092 residents have tested positive
for the Coronavirus since the virus first appeared in our area in March.  836
patients have recovered and 7 are hospitalized.  Caldwell County added 20 new
cases over the weekend bringing their total to 510.  251 patients have recovered
and 19 are hospitalized in Caldwell County.  Covid 19 numbers in Catawba County
rose by 17 yesterday bringing the total to 971.  434 patients have recovered
recovered and 16 are hospitalized.  And in McDowell County, 11 new positive
Covid-19 cases were confirmed Friday bringing the total there to 240.  
166 patients have recovered.


Main Street America WNC Communities

The N.C. Main Street Center & Rural Planning Center of the N.C.

Department of Commerce last week announced that 48 communities
have been designated as a 2020 Accredited Main Street America
Program. Some area communities that earned accredition for
their 2019 performance are Hickory, Lenoir, Marion, Morganton,
Newton, Rutherfordton, Shelby, Spruce Pine and Statesville. Main
Street America has been helping revitalize older and historic
commercial districts for 40 years.


New Burke Food Truck 

Burke County Public Schools is now serving students free meals off its
new food truck at three Morganton locations on Tuesdays and Fridays
this summer. The white, teal and orange food truck arrives at Hillcrest
Elementary School at 11 a.m., PPG Paint Store at 11:45 a.m. and
Walker Road Baptist Church at 12:45 p.m. The meals are available to
anyone 18 and younger.


City Walk Parking

AS City Walk continues in the downtown Hickory area, several public
parking lots along Main Avenue adjacent to the railroad tracks have been
closed. Additionally, several parking spaces on the western end of
Union Square have been blocked off due to construction activity related
to the Third Street NW pedestrian bridge. Public parking remains available
in various 15-minute, 3-hour, and unrestricted parking lots and spaces
throughout downtown Hickory.
