One person died early this morning as the result of an officer involved shooting in southern Caldwell County. Sheriff's deputies responded just before 1:30 to an address on Dudley Shoals Road. According to a press release from the the Sheriff's Office, the identity is not being offically released pending the results of an autopsy and the notification of the next of kin. The deputy that fired his weapon is an administrative leave pending the results of the investigation. The deputy's name is not being released at this time. The SBI is continuing its investigation.

Burke County Public Schools receives a Golden LEAF grant for technology of $200,000. The purpose of the grant is to provide funding to Burke County Public Schools for implementation of a one-to-one digital learning initiative for middle school students and teachers. The funds will assist the district in purchasing devices for 6th grade students and teachers and assist in professional development through a partnership with the Friday Institute for Educational Innovation to strenghen the district's evaluation plan.
