A pedestrian struck by a train in Morganton last month has died. 56-year-old Leigh Singley of Morganton succumbed from injuries sustained after she was hit by a train November 3rd near the old Morganton Depot. Previous reports filed with Morganton Department of Public Safety state Singley suffered numerous and serious injuries after being struck by the eastbound Norfolk Southern train. Burke EMS initially transported Singley to CHS Blue Ridge Morganton, then she was air-lifted to Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte. Morganton Public Safety and Norfolk Southern Police continue to investigate the incident.

A Marion man is arrested after an assault on his girlfriend and unborn child. The McDowell County Sheriff's Office reported the arrest Wednesday, of 24-year-old Jerome Michael Buchanan. Deputies were called December 14th to the Jacktown Road residence that Buchanan shares with his girlfriend, 25-year-old Breanna Childs. The report indicates that the couple got into an argument at which Buchanan assaulted her multiple times. Childs told a deputy that she is 2 months pregnant.

A Hickory man faces numerous charges and FTA offenses. Hickory Police Wednesday arrested 33-year-old Patrick Michael Robbins. Charges include, Trafficking Opium or Heroin and 3 other drug offenses, Possession of Firearm by Felon and Carrying a Concealed Gun along with 5 FTA offenses and 12 driving offenses. Bond was set $999,000 with a court appearance scheduled for today.
