Assault by strangulation is one of the multiple charges imposed on a Nebo man following a July 10th incident.

McDowell deputies and the State Highway Patrol responded to the report of an overturned vehicle caused by a domestic dispute on Old NC 126 in Nebo.

Reports further state while in the magistrate’s office, Winegardner attempted to take the deputy’s gun, fought with the deputy and state troopers, and tried to escape from custody.

He was additionally charged with possession of meth, resisting a public officer, injury to personal property, and assault on a government official or employee.
