Caldwell and Catawba COVID-19

Caldwell County reported 35 new cases of coronavirus on Friday for

a total of 9-thousand-204, with 3 patients hospitalized.

Catawba County saw an increase of 28 new cases of COVID-19 Friday

for a total of 18-thousand-361, with 14 people in the hospital.

East Union Street Construction 

Morganton city crews are closing the 100 block of East Union Street today

through Friday from 7am to 3pm to perform construction on the traffic

islands surrounding the courthouse square. The left lane of North Green

Street closest to the Courthouse, beginning at its intersection with East

Meeting Street, will also be closed. When crews are finished working each

day, they will reopen the 100 block of East Union Street and left lane of

North Green Street until resuming work the next day. This work is part

of the ongoing renovations to the Courthouse Square.

Linville Gorge Camping Permits 

Permits are required to camp in the Linville Gorge Wilderness Area on

Friday and Saturday nights and holidays beginning Saturday through

May 31^st. Permits may be reserved by telephone only with the Linville

Gorge Information Cabin closed. To reserve a permit call 652-2144.

Demand is high so expect the phone line to be frequently busy. A group

may have up to 10 people.
