Chase and Arrest

A Lenoir man just released from prison leads authorities in Polk County on a high speed chase last week.

The Polk County Sheriff’s Office says deputies attempted to stop a vehicle on December 22nd occupied by 38-year-old Joshua Tolbert of Lenoir and 44-year-old Jimmy Mask of Rutherfordton.

Reports indicate Tolbert had been released from a NC prison only three days prior to the incident, while Mask was released in March of this year.

As deputies tried to stop their vehicle, they fled from officers reaching high rates of speed while throwing items from the car.

Officials say the pursuit ended in a field in Spartanburg County where Tolbert and Mask were taken into custody.

Deputies, reports say, found the two were trafficking amounts of methamphetamine as well as psychedelic mushrooms, marijuana, and drug paraphernalia.

Tolbert and Mask were taken to the Spartanburg County detention center to face charges in SC, and will also face extradition back to NC.
