A reported break-in turns into a homicide in the Dysartsville community. A news release Wednesday, states the Burke County Sheriff's Office received a breaking and entering in progress just past 7:30am yesterday on the Goldmine Road. Deputies arrived at the residence to discover a white male dead from a gunshot wound. Officers obtained a search warrant, and called in the SBI to assist. the Morganton News Herald is reporting that an arrest has been made in the case. Steven Adam Taylor, 38, of Goldmine Road, has been charged with the murder of Kevin Lewis McSheffrey, Jr.
Marion Police continue to look for a robbery suspect. Just before midnight on October 23rd, what appeared to be a black male brandishing a knife entered the old M & M Supermarket on the Five Lane and demanded money from the safe and register. When the clerk was unable to open the safe or register, the suspect fled. Anyone with information on the incident or suspect is asked to contact Detective Morgan with the Marion Police Department at 652-5205 or McDowell County Crime Stoppers at 652-7463.
