A Burke County man is sentenced to a prison term for raping his young daughter. According to the Morganton News Herald, 33-year-old Jerry Mathew Anjerok of Morganton will serve 18 to 27 years in prison after pleading in court.
A Hickory resident is charged with failing to appear for possession of methamphetamine and heroin. The Catawba County Sheriff's Office Tuesday, charged 39-year-old Margaret Lasley. Bond was set at $125,000.
An Upper Cleveland County resident faces multiple charges in Catawba County. 27-year-old Joe Clifford Tipps of Lawndale was arrested Tuesday, by the Catawba County Sheriff's Office. He was charged with felony possession of cocaine, possession of drug paraphernalia, breaking and or entering, larceny after breaking and entering and possession of stolen goods. Bond was set at $45,000.
The SBI and WCU Police are working to determine the cause of a small fire that forced about 400 students and staff members to evacuate Walker Residence Hall for 5 hours on Monday. Smoke was reported near the elevator in the lobby area on the 5th floor just after 5pm, prompting the immediate evacuation of residents, according to information from WCU News. No injuries were reported.
