Voting for the primary election will take place today from 6:30am-7:30pm. The Burke County Board of Elections lists the 11th District Congressional race on the ballot as well as NC Supreme Court Justice.

There is an ongoing investigation into the death of a McDowell County jail inmate. The McDowell County Sheriff's Office along with the SBI is examining the death of an inmate found hanging in his jail Sunday. 42 year old David Shane Stafford of Spruce Pine reportedly had tied his bed sheet to a shower head. A press release states CPR was started immediately; however, Stafford was pronounced deceased whenever paramedics arrived. McDowell officials state Stafford was not on suicide watch, as there was no indication he would harm himself. Reports say Stafford was being housed in the McDowell County jail for Mitchell County. He had been charged Thursday with assault on a female, assault by strangulation and kidnapping.

The Catawba County Board of Commissioners has selected Mick Berry as the County's next Manager. Berry has served in various positions in Catawba County, including Assistant County Manager and since 2004, City Manager of Hickory. Berry will become County Manager the first week of July. He will follow Tom Lundy who is retiring after a career that spanned over 40 years in Catawba County.

On Thursday night the Caldwell County Sheriff's Office completed the transfer all inmates back to the Caldwell County Detention Center without incident. The issue with the water has been resolved and water is restored to the facility. The Caldwell County Detention Center will be operating on a normal basis and standard visiting hours will be in place, according to the Caldwell County Sheriff's Office.
