A Morganton man faces multiple charges, after leading authorities on a 20 mile chase. In a report released Sunday, Morganton Public Safety received a call of a disturbance on Alexander Avenue. Dispatch informed responding units that 54 year old Phillip Parson had left the residence armed with a large knife and hammer, in his mother's truck. Parson had reportedly threatened the us of firearms in February and May. Parson led officers on a chase that continued onto I-40 east with speeds topping 85 mph. Valdese Police deployed spike stops at mile marker 112, which deflated two of the tires on the fleeing vehicle. The chase continued to mile marker 119 where Parson pulled into the median and surrended. He was charged with Felony Speeding to Elude Arrest, Assault on a Female, and Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle. Parson was placed at the Burke Catawba Jail under a $20,000 secured bond. A court appearance is scheduled for today.
