A Caldwell County teacher has received statewide recognition. Davenport A-Plus Elementary teacher Carly Schwartz was named the "Teacher of the Year" at this year's state PTA convention. The ceremony, recently held in Greensboro, provided double accolades for Davenport A-Plus with the selection of Schwartz as one of two recipients across the state, and the announcement that the schools' PTA is one of 32 recognized statewide for distinguished achievement. Both Schwartz and the Davenport A-Plus PTA were honored this week at Caldwell's Board of Education meeting.

A single vehicle accident in Burke County results in the driver facing charges. According to WCNC the State Highway Patrol says that just before Noon Wednesday, a vehicle was traveling on Airport Rhodhiss Road, when the vehicle left the road and hit a power pole. A 6 year old girl was hospitalized after being ejected from the vehicle. Her injuries are not life threatening. The mother faces charges of driving while impaired, for pills, reckless driving and a child restraining violation, according to WCNC-TV.
