A truck driver is charged with solicitation while at a local business. 52-year-old Grover Claude Gwyn of Banner Elk was charged with misdemeanor solicitation of prostitution Monday, following an incident at Wal-Mart of Morganton. Public Safety officers were called to investigate a suspicious wire transfer Gwyn reportedly made, in which he sent $550 to a female in California. Reports state after the transaction, Gwyn propositioned a Wal-Mart employee to perform sex acts for $300 and was willing to procure a motel room. The employee refused, and contacted Morganton Public Safety. The employee and officers were working together to set up a prostitution sting on Gwyn, whenever the suspect returned to the business. Shortly thereafter, reports indicate Gwyn was spotted in his vehicle on West Fleming Drive, stopped by officers, and taken into custody without incident. Bond was set at $2500 with a court appearance scheduled for July.

A Caldwell County man faces drug charges after an arrest early Monday morning. Officers from the Lenoir Police Department's Narcotics Unit, with the assistance of the Special Response Team, served a search warrant at the residence of Alphanso Augustus Wright, Jr. Detectives located crack cocaine, marijuana, drug paraphernalia and U.S.currency, according to a news release from Lenoir Police. Wright was arrested and received a $150,000 secured bond. Additional charges may be forthcoming.

The Catawba County Sheriff's Office and Caldwell Crimestoppers are seeking your help in several robberies in Catawba County, you can remain anonymous. Armed robbers are on the loose after holding up the Ronald's Superette convenience store about 10pm Saturday in Catawba County. Investigators said this robbery could be connected to others in the Hickory area. If you have any into call the Sheriff's Office at 464-3112 or Crimestoppers at 758-8300.

Hickory City Council met Tuesday night with several heard and decisions made. There was a Presentation of Proclamation for National Police Week 2016 to Hickory Police Department. City Council heard one public hearing concerning a Community Development Block grant to provide better housing and more suitable living environments, Hickory stands to receive more than $280,000 and nearly $130,000 in program income for a total of $410,000. Also heard was a presentation on Community Health Assessment with Catawba County.

A Marion man faces two felony child sex offenses. The McDowell County Sheriff's Office Tuesday, charged 34-year-old Rondolfo Velino "Rudy" Gonzalez with having inappropriate sexual contact with two victims, on two occasions about a year ago. One of the girl's parents reported the incident to the Sheriff's Office, which eventually led to the second victim.
