Fire damages a Morganton Church Rectory. Public Safety firefighters responded about 7:30 Monday night to St.Charles Catholic Church on West Union Street. Officers and firefighters were able to contain the fire to the Rectory. Damage was estimated at $50,000. Burke County EMS responded to the scene and assisted. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
Two Old Fort residents face methamphetamine charges. The McDowell County Sheriff's Office reported the arrests Monday, of 37 year old Virginia Lee Loftis and 44 year old Franklin Dewayne Barlowe. Authorities, for months, have investigated reports of drug activity at the Harlowe Noblitt Road residence. In the early morning hours on April 7th, members of the Sheriff's Office, Marion Police and SBI raided the home and located 43.5 grams of meth, several small marijuana plants, cash and a shotgun.
A Longview man faces multiple cocaine charges. Hickory Police made the arrest Monday, of 50 year old Robert Franklin Martin. Bond was set at $172,000 with a court appearance scheduled for today.
Two felony drug charges are filed on an Eastern Burke County man. Morganton Public Safety Monday, arrested 27 year old Bradley Neil Holt of Connelly Springs. He was placed in the Burke Catawba District Confinement Center under $20,000 secured bond with a District Court appearance in Morganton set for tomorrow.
