The District 4 seat on council remains vacant and Mountain View Street was given a new name in Monday night's regular Morganton City Council meeting. Once agains, council voted on filling the District 4 vacancy ending with a draw. Mayor Ronnie Thompson and Sydney Simmons voted for John Henry while Forest Flemming and John Cantrell voted for Wendy Cato. The city attorney made it clear to council and members of the audience that a special election cannot be held in Morganton solely for the District 4 vacancy. Council decided to continue the discussion at a later date, In new business, City Manager Sally Sandy proposed the consideration of renaming Mountain View Street. the reasoning behind the name change is due to the same street name in Drexel. Residents who live on Mountain View Street in Morganton regularly have mail delivered to the wrong address as well as 9-1-1 calls that go to the wrong address. Residents on Mountain View Street came up with the new street name, Steeple Heights Lane. The motion passed unanimously. Council also approved to enter into a new audit contract with Elliott Davis Decosimo for $36,500 the first year.
