The three-month-old listed in critical condition Monday, died Tuesday. Nicholas Brandon Clark and Brittany Nicole Hefner were charged with 1 count of felony child abuse after Burke County Sheriff's Deputies conducted an investigation, responding to a report that the infant was not breathing. It was discovered the infant had a twin brother and both children were transported to Brenner Children's Hospital in Winston Salem. As of Monday, the infant who was reportedly not breathing, was listed in critical condition. He succumbed to his injuries Tuesday. The other twin is still listed in stable condition. The investigation against Clark and Hefner is ongoing and the Sheriff's office is working with the District Attorney and further charges are pending.
A Conover man has been charged with felony first-degree forcible rape after a sexual assault investigation. Investigators with the Catawba County Sheriff's office established evidence to suspect that the sexual assault occurred in Burke County and Burke County Sheriff's deputies helped locate 30-year-old Michael Christopher Weaver, whom was considered a suspect. Burke and Catawba investigators questioned Weaver and determined the sexual assault occurred at Lowman's Motel in Hildebran. After searching the motel room, several key items of evidence were located. Weaver was arrested Monday and placed in the Burke Catawba District Confinement Facility under a secured bond of $250,000.
