Two people filed for office Friday at the Burke County Board of Elections. Kyle Barrier filed for Register of Deeds on the Republican ticket, while Emily Church filed for County Commissioner on the Democratic ticket.

Morganton Public Safety Sunday, made a second felony arrest for a suspected drug dealer in less than a month. After a traffic stop on Burkemont Avenue, a passenger in the vehicle, 34 year old Alan Ray Mitchell was charged with Felony Trafficking Heroin and Felony Trafficking Opiates. Mitchell had pending charges of selling drugs near a school November 25th and probation violation. A second arrest was made of 34 year old April Marie Boyd, who listed the same address as Mitchell. She was charged with Felony Trafficking Heroin and Felony Trafficking Drugs. Her bond was set $25,000 with Mitchell's bond listed at $100,000. Both are scheduled to appear in Burke County District Court today in Morganton.
