The Board County Board of Elections Office reports three filings for County Commissioner since late last week. On Friday, Jeff Brittain filed, with Jack Carroll and Rodney Eckard filing Monday. All three filed on the Republican ticket. There will now be a primary for both parties.

Freedom 's Gayle Walden was named Assistant Principal of the Year and students were recognized in Monday night's Burke County Board of Education regular meeting. Walden began teaching in 1988 and has taught at Oak Hill Elementary and Walter Johnson Middle along with assistant principal duties at Salem Elementary and Freedom. Cathy Williams of Oak Hill was named Principal of the Year and is retiring later this month. Jacob Lowman of Draughn, Darius Burgess of Freedom, Avery Bumgarner of East Burke and Leslee Kanupp of Burke Middle College were recognized as Daughters of the American Revolution Good Citizen Winners.
